Lessons in Love and Life
Ok, so, I do love to cook…and what I have discovered of late is that I love to cook for my close friends and family. I know this is not a funny story or a romantic blunder story (What’s romance again??) but just thought I would share with you how I feel about love, friendship and my cooking.
I started to learn cooking because of my soul mate, Steve. He was my best friend and love…I miss him dearly. God rest his soul as it is this time of year that he passed away. I don’t know how to explain how he influenced my love for cooking but to this day, I remember him cooking chicken in the roasting pot and how great it smelled and he was cooking for his mom so that when she came home from work, dinner would be ready. Every time I use that damn roasting pot, I think of him and that chicken.
I also learned one of the hardest lessons in my life from my relationship with Steve: that you never know what the next day will bring, so live each day like you don’t know if you will have a chance tomorrow, do all the things you love to do, be with the people that you love to be with (even if you have a fight!) and that we need to take every opportunity to enjoy the people and things we love while we can.
I can never follow recipe books and I always have to alter them based on my own preference and my taste buds but so far, I have not had any complaints that I know of!! I learned from Steve not just to how to cook with an open mind but what unconditional love and friendship is. I have not encountered anyone like him since.
So two of my most favourite recipes that I love love love to share and see people’s reaction are to my Mac ‘n Cheese and my slow cooked Asian Pork Ribs. (The recipes are below!)
All my friends love it when I bring the ribs to the beach for our weekly BBQ….I swear….this is not how I buy friends….lol. I just love to see people enjoy my cooking
Food always seems to taste so much better when you cook for others…well at least for me.
